I urge you to veto SB 9, “The Ohio Patriot Act.” The bill is redundant, cumbersome, and unnecessary.

RIGHT MESSAGE, WRONG CANDIDATE: COUNCILMAN’S CONFUSED ENDORSEMENT – Dec 18th, 05

Here at the Peirce for Ohio campaign headquarters, we were admittely confused when Amherst City Councilman Nick Brusky sent an email (another link) to Ken Blackwell supporters on December 1st with the following Libertarian message:

Ken Blackwell believes that no government has taxed their way into prosperity, and will seek an agenda that gives Ohioans the freedom to prosper by restricting government spending and letting you keep more of your own money.

I became a Republican because I believe that government should give people the freedom to prosper while protecting the values that have secured our liberties for over 200 years.

Why confused? It may come as a shock to some people that Dr. Bill Peirce’s campaign website has been using the Freedom to Prosper slogan as our central theme since day one in September (see the frontpage splash image for just one example of where we use the phrase throughout the site). And we’re not just bandying words here — Peirce is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Case Western Reserve University (read his bio) and his economic plan comes from 40 years of scientific research.

We also realize that it’s these days it may be so difficult to distinguish between Democrats and Republicans that adding a Libertarian candidate to the fray could cause some circuits to overload (which is why we suggest you check out our informative guide: Why Vote Libertarian).

So we’re glad to see Mr. Brusky is endorsing Freedom to Prosper in his esteemed opinion, at the very least he has a good head to know what he wants from his governor and for Ohio. But we’re confused that he thinks Ken Blackwell would be the candidate to deliver on that promise.
